Simulator Overview
|
Space Shuttle simulator, Falcon III
The shuttle simulator is the most realistic shuttle simulator outside of NASA. Campers simulate launch, orbit, satellite deployment, reentry, and landing in a motion-based simulator.
|
Mission Control
Mission Control allows campers to track the course of the Falcon III in real time. Mission Controllers verify information and solve problems while CAPCOM communicates with the team flying their mission.
|
|
Multi-Axis Trainer
The multi-axis trainer spins riders 360 degrees in multiple axes while simulating tumble-type maneuvers that could be encountered in space flight.
|
Centrifuge
The centrifuge tests campers’ reactions
to forces encountered during launch and
reentry. The centrifuge applies the same
amount of force as a typical space shuttle
launch, roughly 3-4 Gs. |
|
Stress Simulator
The stress simulator incorporates a mission with external stimuli in an effort to simulate stressful situations encountered during spaceflight. The simulator then measures reaction time. |
Sessions of Investigate
Space are conducted each summer at the Cosmosphere.
The week-long camps are held with A.M. and P.M. sessions
and limited to 20 students each session. The morning
sessions run from 9 a.m. to noon and the afternoon
sessions run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
To register for
camp, inquire about scholarships or be placed on a
waiting list, please contact the education coordinator
at 620.665.9323 or
800.397.0330, ext. 323, or at laurieg@cosmo.org. |
